Debo is married to locally born retired fire officer John Sellis, her family has three children and four grandchildren, and she has a wealth of experience in local government.
Debo is the Vice Chairman of Devon County Council, County Councillor for Tavistock, and Gulworthy & a West Devon Borough Councillor for Tavistock Southeast. A now retired State Registered Nurse, in the past Debo has been Vice Chairman of the Health & Wellbeing & and Children’s Overview & Scrutiny, having chaired or joined in many task groups looking into rural access to health, falls and slips, taking Public Health back into Devon County Council and scrutinising LGBT advice and support in schools.
Over the years Debo has been chairman of West Devon Borough Council Planning, Audit, Overview & Scrutiny Committees and has held portfolio for Homes.
A member and strong supporter of many local community groups, Debo co-founded Tidy Tavy with two local ladies, was the creator of Political Speed Dating, which invited students to meet local councillors & ask questions about local issues.
Debo is a director of the DCC Joint Venture with Devon Norse, who deal with catering and cleaning contracts in Devon. Since 2009 Debo has been on the Executive board of the Cornwall & West Devon World Heritage Site Partnership & the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Since Tavistock is the only World Heritage Town in Devon,Debo realised it needed sprucing up, so she got cracking and helped make many changes. Debo asked disabled people where they had difficulty and some significant changes were made at the local hospital and some crossing areas and pavements.
More attractive LED low carbon street lamps have been erected in the Conservation area (roads and buildings.) Better for nocturnal animals & precious ecology.
Tons of litter have been collected by volunteer litter picking group set up by 2 ladies and Debo in 2011. One recent post on her counsellor Facebook page, show the difference Debo made at a street corner, all her own work! (See picture)
She’s also worked hard to help reinstate Tavistock as a Fair Trade town.
Being ever concerned about speeding traffic and animal deaths on local moor, she’s organised meetings with our Devon and Cornwall police and crime Commissioner (PCC) Alison Hernandez eg 25/11/20 6-7.30pm for locally elected WDBC & parish councillors on road safety concerns.
All in all, Debo is one of the most hard-working councillors in the country. Please follow her on social media.
